Circle # Topic ( Archived )   Circle    Question
90 NATURE of the TODDLER How can I feel better about my child's not being ready to share? He is fourteen months old.
  • A fourteen-month-old may hand things to another child, but sharing is a very mature concept. Lots of adults don't do it well, either.
  • Play games that encourage him to pass things back and forth.
  • My children didn't share well until after kindergarten.
  • Have enough toys and pots and pans for all the toddlers.>
  • Avoid taking the child to places where he needs to share.
  • Children this age play near each other, not with each other.
  • Don't expect him to share a favorite toy yet. He's too young.
  • Help him get ready for sharing by letting him pass the cookies when there are enough for everyone.
  • Remember, at his age asking him to share is like asking you to open your bank account to a friend. You probably wouldn't like that.
